Toot’s Tavern Sideshow and Cabaret

On April 25th, The Barbary Coast Burlesque, Mike Templeton and Hernan Cortez played a standing room only crowd at Toot’s Tavern, in historic Crockett, CA. This watering hole has been pouring since 1901, and was last heard from in 2004 when the bronze statue “Resting Hermes”, previously stolen from the University Club on Nob Hill turned up in the very spot we performed.

Pro Bowl 2009 video

My .0015 second of fame!

Here’s the best footage I’ve found yet from fans:

I’m in the first 10 seconds, realizing I have been transported to Mexico City during rush hour as the waves of spent propane and pyro clouds roll past. It suddenly went from Disney on Ice to SRL.
45 seconds later, I’m so high on fumes and adrenaline, that I almost run into Ciara’s bodyguard as I run off the field.

Morningwood Odditorium is run by the Fremont Players, who present traditional Brittish pathos plays for audiences of all ages. When I stopped by the stage to say hi, I suddenly had 3 shows over the weekend!

Here’s a couple of video clips from Monica’s camera…

Kate McGlynn, owner of Warrior Girl LLC, along with her partners in San Francisco, formed the Aerial Action Team, a group of circus performers, pranksters, and daredevils.  Warrior Girl LLC is working with the Aerial Action Team to perform a bungee performance during the half-time show of the NFL Pro-Bowl.

Mike Templeton, who has performed in Japan, Italy, and across the States (a local icon in San Francisco) is joining the Aerial Action Team in Hawaii as a rigger and performer. Mike designed the mobile rig for the performance as well as 3D models and renderings. He has been involved with the Aerial Action Team and Warrior Girl since 1996.

Warrior Girl and John Law co-founded the Aerial Action Team in 1996 in San Francisco. Warrior Girl, who hailed from the Detroit Area, decided one day to perform her first solo aerial show with a 16 foot spiderweb, and a crane at SOMA Gallery in SF for the Burning Man Arts Festival Fundraiser. John Law, who hails from Big Rapids, MI; and is one of the founders of the Burning Man Arts Festival in the Nevada Desert,  saw Warrior Girl’s performance and approached her to work together to create an exciting troupe of performers who force the audience to look in a different way at performance art, UP!!

The Aerial Action Team has performed all around the world, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Barcelona, and Berlin, for groups like The Grateful Dead, the Merry Pranksters, 3-d painter Skee Goodheart, and now the NFL.

Bastille Day for Left Bank Brasserie

For Immediate Release: July 5, 2008

Left Bank brings French Cafe artistry to Menlo Park
with unique entertainment for Bastille Day

Two days , three nights!

July 12-14th, 2008

(Menlo Park, CA) – With the spirit of modern Paris, locally acclaimed Templeton Variety produces three distinct days of entertainment in the heart of downtown Menlo Park, in honor of this Fête Nationale, with music, circus performers, and ethnic dance. In celebration of the storming of the Bastille and the freedom of expression it granted, General Manager Gerald Murphy has made arrangements for three days of joy, July 12th through 14th from Noon to 10pm at Left Bank Brasserie (635 Santa Cruz Ave, Menlo Park, CA).

Saturday the 12th of July, the spectacle starts at Noon as Stilt Dancers engage young and old alike along Santa Cruz Avenue, bringing joie de vivre to all who pass. In the afternoon they will be joined by our fiddler and accordionist from the Red Hot Chachkas, each playing solo sidewalk shows. They will pair up to provide live music in the lounge from 8-10PM that will keep you on your feet! And if that is not enough, Rebecca Firestone will perform ethnic saber dances to entrance and astound!

Sunday the 13th of July, our Stilt Dancers will be out at Noon again, to be joined by Bay Area favorite, Suzanne Ramsey, aka Kitten on the Keys, with an accordion set in the afternoon and her full show in the lounge between 6PM and 8PM. Recently back from a two month tour of Europe, this show marks Suzanne’s triumphant return for fans who have mourned her absence from the scene.

Monday the 14th of July singer Marisa Lenhardt will honor Bastille Day proper with songs from her repetoire of classical Opera between 7PM and 9PM. If you’re looking for a lovely environment for an elegant celebration, please book your table in advance by calling (650) 473-6543 for reservations.

Loved by audiences around the world, Templeton Variety creates and produces circus, theater, and live entertainment for private clients and corporate events; their work is custom tailored to each event.
